Many of the fashions in American Apparel’s promoting are recruited by Charney and his colleagues on the road, or firm shops; others are chosen after sending their photographs on to the corporate web site. As of 2013, only one case, a “class motion [lawsuit] on behalf of all feminine workers” which accommodates no “particular allegations towards Charney,” stays lively. In response to the lawsuits, American Apparel has claimed that the lawsuits have been extortionary attempts to “shake the company down,” and has run advertisements saying so.
